justobusto @danielguillan I'm thinking I'll end up settling nicely with a Dell 2209WA. Good size, decent price ($299) for an IPS. It did cross my mind to use my laptop as my go-by, but I've read that the macbook uses a TN screen, so it seems like my secondary display should go for the higher end.

justobusto @danielguillan thought i'd follow up. i am still looking and recently came across information about why certain monitors are cheaper. these deals look to generally be for TN (twisted nematic) panels, which are better for gaming than design/photo work due to quality of color and such. VA (vertical alignment) panel is said to be mid-grade, and a IPS (In-plane Switching) panel would be the best bet. I think I'll end up aiming for a lower size of what I'd prefer to get higher quality. Now to find a good fit.

justobusto i don't usually jump into forums easily, but i could see myself liking this one a lot. simply, and freeflowing or narrowed as you like. i thought it was another twitter type thing at first, but the non-140 character limit is freeing to give full answers. me likey.

justobusto i'm thinking about getting a new monitor for my laptop. 22" – 27", anyone have recommendations on brands to consider or deals going on right now? I'd love to find something good and under $200. is that realistic?
