FunkmonkI much prefer regular Facebook, but this could just be a case of liking what I'm used to. I'm not sure, it could also be that this sort of simple system doesn't quite work with the multimedia side to facebook, such as the images, video, applications etc. Added 2009-12-11 04:03:53.

reddoI'm just tryin' FB lite... but i honestly they could do it better...
i miss the "notifications filter" (the one on the left column) that's useful to show only what you need (photos, links, etc) and from people you want.
I miss the "advanced" publishing tool that's on the big FB, with FB lite i can't post vimeo videos....
I LOVE the lack of applications :_D and games and shit.
they should work on the right column, put "tools" instead of "people you could know" box... Added 2009-11-11 16:48:41. In reply to texjer

whateverfacebook lite is cool if you hate face book applications,or using the account for business connections. Clears the rubbish and non essential info, great way to have two accounts for two purposes, that functions similarly. Added 2009-10-27 14:22:18.

elbryanI've used myspace since 2005. I've used facebook since 2008. I quit using myspace and became addicted to facebook earlier this year when they made the major change to compete with twitter. I don't care for twitter. I use it to quip politics and promote my editorial cartoons so that my facebook friends, 63% (officially) of whom don't share similar political views, don't have to listen to me rant. thatothertimepersonally I havent seen anything worth '30 seconds' spawn from facebook, I just dont see a future for the site, myspace has more respect in my eyes for their myspace music for independent artists, I mean that does more good. facebook? all you get is screengrabs of fail when people get fired, arguments and drama over their status. lame. texjerI think facebook works pretty well. I really like it when it works on a hyper local level. I'm friends with a few people in my building, so it's nice when I can them a question all at once, but it'd be really great if I could be friends with the other 40 people in the complex. Anybody know of a social network that works on a more local level? There's an app on facebook if you search for "vicinity," but it looks broken.

rebobaydobayI think the real purpose of Facebook lite is to expand their customer base to countries with lower bandwidths. 'Full fat' Facebook is too much for non-broadband users, and lite is being trialled for use in countries such as India, China and Russia. Although it bears close resemblance to Twitter an the like, I don't think lite is aimed at the people that already use the heavier version.

progressiveone@DanielDiggle I think you're very right regarding it looking inspired by fallon. I had actually forgotten about fallon.com, I've got to try it out. Added 2009-10-15 11:09:46.

DanielDiggle@progressiveone - I think that fb redesign concept is part inspired by Skimmer | http://www.fallon.com/skimmer | some of the design cues and typography are quite similar. FB Lite is a nice concept - perhaps they will have the option in the future to toggle posts between public/private stream - thus opening up more to twitter style conversation without entirely loosing the privacy of the "walled garden" Added 2009-10-15 05:56:30.

seanhoodHowever much Facebook's new design looks like Twitter it will never be Twitter. Facebook is about closed communication to a select group of people. Twitter is about open communication to everyone to see. Thats how i see it anyway. Added 2009-10-15 03:08:53.
nomologyDoesn't matter what people use at the moment. It'll take a couple more years for social networks to evolve and manifest. Whether that is something by Google, Twitter or Facebook (not to forget this place)... we'll see.
The competition will motivate the parties to revolutionize their architecture and technology. Nothing wrong with that, right? Added 2009-10-14 08:39:25.

ravivasavanFacebook lost the plot soon as they thought they could compete with Twitter, both are in entirely different arenas. But hey, I quite like how Facebook Lite is running! Added 2009-10-14 04:16:37.

gridulaI use it more than I used to, but I still find it a complete nightmare to actually use. Maybe it's because I am now old. So in some respects I would welcome the chance to try the lite version out. Added 2009-10-13 13:45:39.

alyceAt first it seemed nice, but it does seem awfully twitterish. And when such a big brand such as facebook starts to copycat, something is horribly wrong. I think facebook has a real struggle not to end up i the same graveyard as myspace. Added 2009-10-13 13:33:48.

cosmiquesagree with andreas: facebook, where profiles go to die. besides, this recent addition reeks of too little (pun?) too late - facebook is not twitter and vice versa. as @squire225 said, facebook would be better off sticking to their guns rather than trying to imitate twitter. squire225As much as I like FB lite, it would've been better if FB Heavy didn't already exist. I agree that FB has lost the handle when they tried to be like Twitter rather than being like FB. That shows a lack of innovation and frankly is backtracking in my opinion. Facebook needs to just continue progressing as FB -- Connect is a great concept and I'm sure there are elements of the network that I don't take advantage of that may be worth exploring.
Maybe they think FB Lite will replace the mobile versions as phones progress with full blown browsers. Added 2009-10-13 11:44:32.

scottSome say Facebook is trying real hard to be competitive with Twitter. Do you think this strategy of making a faster, simpler Facebook will do the trick? While I do like the simpler interface, I don't think Facebook and Twitter are on the same level. I guess Facebook is trying to get on the same level that Twitter is be releasing this "lite" version.
I do have to say if you're in a time crunch and just wanna see what friends are up to, Facebook Lite is far less distracting than good ole' Facebook. Added 2009-10-13 08:02:21.
